Code of Federal Regulations (CFR)
The Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) is the codification of the general and permanent rules published in the Federal Register by the executive departments and agencies of the Federal Government. It is divided into 50 titles that represent broad areas subject to Federal regulation. Each volume of the CFR is updated once each calendar year and is issued on a quarterly basis. Environmental Protection Agency – Office of Compliance

Hazardous Cargo Bulletin
Hazardous Cargo Bulletin (HCB) was established in 1980 to help those involved in the transport of dangerous goods to keep up to date with changing regulations. The magazine continues to cover regulatory developments and to bring its readers news of products and services that aim to make their operations safer or more efficient. The magazine covers the transport of all kinds of dangerous goods, but particularly liquid chemicals, liquefied gases, explosives and radioactive materials. It covers transport by all modes: road, rail, maritime (bulk and packaged), inland waterway and air. Its coverage is also global in scope, covering not only North America and Western Europe but also the Far East, South-East Asia, Australasia, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America. HCB has full-time writers based in the US and in Poland and a network of part-time contributors in Singapore, India, Brazil, Zambia and elsewhere.

IATA – The International Air Transport Association

The International Standards Organization
ISO (International Organization for Standardization) is the world’s largest developer and publisher of International Standards.

ISO is a network of the national standards institutes of 159 countries, one member per country, with a Central Secretariat in Geneva, Switzerland, that coordinates the system.

ISO is a non-governmental organization that forms a bridge between the public and private sectors. On the one hand, many of its member institutes are part of the governmental structure of their countries, or are mandated by their government. On the other hand, other members have their roots uniquely in the private sector, having been set up by national partnerships of industry associations.

Therefore, ISO enables a consensus to be reached on solutions that meet both the requirements of business and the broader needs of society.

Library of Congress – Thomas Website
THOMAS was launched in January of 1995, at the inception of the 104th Congress. The leadership of the 104th Congress directed the Library of Congress to make federal legislative information freely available to the public. Since that time THOMAS has expanded the scope of its offerings to include the features and content listed below. This is one of the best websites for legislative information. Updated daily, the site provides copies of all federal legislation, committee reports, etc.

Manufacturer’s ‘M’ Number Listing
A symbol or “M Number” is issued to a company as a means of identification. Under certain regulations, the M number must be used solely as the identifier on a package, for example DOT 39 nonrefillable cylinders, 49 CFR 178.65(i)(2). However, other regulations allow the manufacturer to use either the symbol or their name and address as specified in 49 CFR 178.3(a)(2). Lists of manufacturer’s symbols are in two formats. The first format lists the manufacturers sequentially by Identification Number (M #). The second format lists each state’s manufacturers alphabetically by city and company name. The identification number, the name and address, the status and the date of the registration are provided in both formats. The attached link will provide Manufacturer’s Symbols by Identification Number by State.

National Recycling Coalition
The National Recycling Coalition (NRC) is a national non-profit advocacy group with members that span all aspects of waste reduction, reuse and recycling in North America. The Coalition represents advocates from every region of the country, in every sector of the waste reduction field. Local recycling coordinators, state and federal regulators, corporate environmental managers, environmental educators and advocates, consumers and waste management professionals are all members of NRC.

This website lists pallet manufacturers and recyclers. Their mission is dedicated to the success of our members by helping them create cost-effective, environmentally responsible solutions to meet their customers’ changing unit load handling needs.

Petroleum Packaging Council
Petroleum Packaging Council (PPC) is formed to provide technical leadership and education to the petroleum packaging industry, while providing a forum where members can exchange pertinent information for the betterment of the industry and the world we live in. This is done via lectures, seminars, training courses, supplier trade shows, and general discussions. It is international in scope and includes packaging from the receipt of materials through the manufacturing process to the ultimate consumer. All aspects are considered, including: environmental stewardship, quality techniques, processing, human requirements, distribution and service.

PHMSA (The US Department of Transportation Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration)
The Pipeline and Hazardous Material Safety Administration Office of Hazardous Materials Safety (OHMS) is the Federal safety authority for ensuring the safe transport of hazardous materials (hazmat) by air, rail, highway, and water, with the exception of bulk transportation of hazmat by vessel. OHMS promulgates a national safety program to minimize the risks to life and property inherent in commercial transportation of hazardous materials.

Plastic Drum Institute
This website provides useful links for those in the plastic drum industry. There are links for manufacturers, resin suppliers, other suppliers, testing agencies and recyclers & reconditioners. In addition, there are related links for both technical and regulatory publications, industry news and upcoming meetings.

RIPA – The Reusable Industrial Packaging Association
The Reusable Industrial Packaging Association (RIPA) was founded in 1942 and was one of the first trade associations to represent the industrial packaging business in North America. Today, the group represents all parts of the industrial packaging industry, including reconditioners, manufacturers, distributors, suppliers, and packagers.

Steel Shipping Container Institute
The Steel Shipping Container Institute is a non-profit organization representing the manufacturers of new steel shipping containers. The SSCI’s Regular Members include companies operating in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Suppliers of materials and components to the industry serve as Associate Members of the Institute, while foreign based steel container manufacturing operations are affiliated through the SSCI’s International Members.
